LET'S KUMDO

Embracing Kumdo's holistic teachings not only refines physical health but also nurtures mental robustness, yielding a poised and confident individual equipped to navigate life's challenges with grace and acumen.

Kendo or kumdo, an embodiment of physical prowess and mental discipline, offers practitioners a unique fusion of rigorous exercise and cognitive development. Its demanding movements enhance physical fitness, while the need for acute concentration sharpens mental agility. Beyond the dojo, Kendo's ethos of respect and ethical conduct fosters personal growth and empathy. Propagating Kumdo not only enriches individuals but also cultivates cross-cultural bonds, promoting a more interconnected and harmonious world where tradition and modernity coalesce in a profound pursuit of self-betterment and global unity. WHY KUMDO?

So what?

RESPECT AND ETHICAL VALUES

Kumdo transcends sword techniques, emphasizing the significance of character enhancement and respect for others. Its foundational teaching centers on respect, fostering a philosophy of safeguarding the vulnerable. Meditation practices foster self-reflection, aligning body and soul. The philosophical tenets of Kumdo offer enduring life values crucial in today's society.

CONCENTRATION AND MENTAL AGILITY

Rooted in real-life sword combat, Kumdo fosters unwavering concentration through relentless training and sparring. Its origins in life-and-death scenarios instill the need for meticulous focus, which extends beyond training and enhances cognitive prowess, supporting effective decision-making in daily life.

STRESS RELIEF AND CONFIDENCE BUILDING

Kumdo channels energy through Kiai (abdominal shout) for superior power, releasing stress while enhancing self-assuredness. Training, regardless of age or gender, cultivates confidence through intense practices, ultimately strengthening self-esteem and mental resilience.

MY ENGINEERING OUTLOOK

What I'm doing to contribute

STEP 1: THE PROBLEM

Handguards in Kumdo are either really cheap or really expensive. They're either handmade or mass produced. Is there a way I can customize a handguard while still being affordable and safe for players alike?

STEP 2: DESIGN

Start with designing the 3D model for the handguard. This starts with a scan of a regular handguard and transformed into an STL file. This is then printed from a resin printer to examine any mistakes or flaws.

STEP 3: TESTING AND FEEDBACK

The material used is just as important. If there are to be design cut into the handguard or possibly different colors, then taking into account cost efficiency and structural integrity is vital. This is the current stage of my project. Stress testing is imperative and materials with stronger tension are to be needed.

THE PRESENT AND FUTURE OF MY PROJECT

After finding the right materials and designs, I plan on making this a public STL file and blog with the instuctions on which materials to use and what precautions to take when printing this file. Furthermore, I plan on printing a first batch of 100 handguards to distibute during joint practices and competitions starting from Summer 2023.
